Bill Laux
Board Member Operations Secretary It all began with a clunky Briggs and Stratton lawnmower, and moving the engine on to a discarded Toro deck. Getting older and being the eldest of 5 brothers there was plenty of help doing a clutch job on the family VW bug by lifting the car off the engine during High School. College brought earning room and board as a Test Engineer at Pacific Pneumatics, an Uncle’s business, and 40 years later still at it! There have been many motorcycles and sports cars through the years, and he’s grateful to now be in a place he doesn't need to keep a sports car running to get around. The Festival has provided a chance to give back to everyone contacted in our endeavor to share the passion and knowledge!

Stewart Bartley
Board Member Treasurer Stewart’s automotive passion began in earnest when his father took him to see the John Frankenheimer film, Grand Prix, in the late 1960’s. This film, about the exotic world of Formula 1 racing in Europe captivated the young Stewart and began a lifelong fascination with European cars. Fortunately, Stewart’s dad had always wanted a sports car, so when Stewart was ready to get a driver’s license, it turned out to be the perfect excuse for the two of them to buy a 1960 MGA. They spent many hours together working on and improving that car, and several other British cars that followed. In fact, Stewart still owns his second car, a 1959 MGA that was purchased in his Junior year of high school.
A successful career in real estate development has now enabled Stewart to fuel his passion with ever faster cars. Currently he races Formula Fords with the Vintage Racer Group and is an active member of the Ferrari Club of America. In addition to his work on the Old Town Festival of Speed & Style, he is now combining his professional real estate experience with his automotive passion to develop the Dominion Lux Garage Condominiums at Dominion Raceway and Entertainment near Fredericksburg, Virginia. |

Don Roberts
Board Member Charity & Volunteer Coordinator At an early age Don developed his love for all things 4-wheeled that go fast. Always mechanically inclined, at the ripe old age of 11 he built his first GoCart using a steel bed frame and discarded lawn mower engines that he drug home from the curb while on his morning paper route . As a teenager his rescued his first car, an Austin- Healey 100-6, from the humiliation of a chicken wire and fiberglass "body upgrade" and never looked back. Soon to follow were several more A-Hs, a Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupe , a few Mercedes Benzs and finally several Morgan +4 and +8 Drop Head Coupes and a Jaguar MK2. Don is now retired (Senior Manager) from a career with Bells Labs and Mitre/Mitretech/Noblis directing research projects related to missile defense, transportation safety and traveler information systems. He continues to apply his analytical skills, devoting most of his time to his British sports car interests, that include repair, restoration and technical sessions/advice to support and educate others. A key part of his approach to each new project or task is to develop a comprehensive execution plan that includes all stakeholders.

Thomas Kuester
Organizing Committee Artist Newly abandoned machines of war, destroyed on our German family farm near the Russian front, gave me an early childhood introduction to purpose driven design. I loved things mechanical. After escaping East Germany with the help of my German grandparents and an American Army Colonel, who made me get a haircut the day I arrived in the US, I studied industrial design intending to make a career in automotive design. In time my design ambitions broadened beyond cars but cars remained a focus in my life. For $150 I bought a 1952 Jaguar ‘teardrop’ coupe which became my first daily driver after graduation from college. It had been sitting in a weed field for years and needed everything. Then came a new 1969 Corvette followed by a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera, that I’ve owned for the past 41 years, and a recently purchased 1972 Corvette that needs love and parts. The Corvette restauration is providing relaxation during stressful periods caused by the current Pandemic and it reminds me of my younger years. After working in Saudi Arabia for a few years, my wife and I started an award winning business designing restaurants and retail shops in virtually all major American and Canadian airports. In addition we designed food service facilities at countless universities, sports venues and health care facilities throughout the US. Although fully retired, I continue designing notable projects such as very cool athlete dining facilities for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Old Town Festival of Speed & Style was introduced to me by a friend who thought I’d like the group’s love for cars, comradery and mission to be of help to those less fortunate.

Hal Hardaway
Organizing Committee Reading Hot Rod magazine at the age of 5, growing up in the Southern Virginia short track NASCAR culture, helping his father restore a 1935 Plymouth, and countless other experiences stoked Hal's interest in automobiles. Unable to pursue this very much during a 30-year Navy career of constant moves, no garage space, overseas and sea duty, he was able to get with it when he moved to Alexandria and then retired from the Navy. While interested in automobiles of every stripe, his current collection is all British, a 1955 Austin-Healey 100 "Nasty Boy" (Chevrolet V8), 1956 Austin-Healey 100 steel hardtop (the only once in existence), 1959 Triumph TR3A, 1969 Morgan Plus 8, and a replica FIA small block Cobra race car he built with Alexandria friends. Plus a 1967 BSA Victor motorcycle. Now a resident of Williamsburg, he's enjoying the car rich culture of Tidewater Virginia, but remains engaged with his petrolhead buddies in Alexandria.
