This past weekend, organizers of the Old Town Festival of Speed & Style presented by Burke& Herbert Bank presented local Alexandria based charity Alive! with a unique and special check presentation with the George Washington Masonic Temple and a collection of classic cars serving as the backdrop.

Six rare and usual supercars ranging from an Austin-Healey to a Ferrari, with their owners present at a safe distance, presented Alive! Executive Director, Jennifer Ayers with a $3,000 check to help support the non-profits critical mainstay programs, such as shelter, food, assistance programs, and early education services that have been deeply impacted by Covid-19. Alive! is one of the scheduled benefactors of this year's speed & style festival.

“Our charter has always been to do something special for the community — while giving back to the community,” said Rick Myllenbeck, founder and chairman of the Old Town Festival of Speed & Style. “We are delighted that we can share the proceeds generated from the Festival with a very deserving local charity, ALIVE!, which is so wonderfully making a difference for many local families at this great time of need.”

The 2nd Annual Old Town Festival of Speed & Style was originally scheduled to take place this month, will now currently take place on Sunday, September 6 over Labor Day weekend. The event will feature more than 100 rare and unusual supercars and vintage motorcycles from around the world for viewing enjoyment. The event will span across three blocks on lower King Street near Old Town’s waterfront. The event is scheduled to feature a fashion exhibition presented by the Old Town Boutique District in which boutiques will showcase styles from the themed cars on display. The event organizing team is currently working with the City on safe distance protocols for the event.

I like that you talked about festivals being able to share their proceeds with a local charity. I will look for a festival like that to go to this weekend with my friends. It will be a good idea to be spending and enjoying while there is a greater cause that we are supporting.
